The Crystaldimension is made up of islands surrounded by the ocean. The most important places are: Gamindustri, Gensokyo and Akihabara. In addition there are minor islands which match up to other franchises. Overall the exact lore of the world is not super important. But I still try to keep everything consistent between the game, novel and website.
Gamindustri is the world of Hyperdimension Neptunia - a world in which everything centers around videogames. Here, important characters are rulers of islands which are based on console manufacturers ('CPUs'), or based on companies which develop games ('Makers'). Overall there are four major islands: Planeptune which is based on SEGA, Lastation based on Sony, Lowee based on Nintendo and Leanbox based on Microsoft. Stories in this world revolve around the CPUs fighting for dominance over the game market, or fighting organizations which pirate games and produce counterfeit games and consoles.
Gamindustri exists as four seperate islands: Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee and Leanbox. My version unifies the lore of HDN with mk2 (the first two games) and adds some of the newer characters. There is no HDD and the role of CPU of an island shifts to the most suitable inhabitant. For example, during the events of my novel, Neptune replaces Plutia as CPU of Planeptune.
Gensokyo is the world of Touhou - a series of bullet hell games which take place in a world heavily inspired by japanese mythology. The basic idea is that in our world, spirits, apparitions and demons ('Youkai') have dissapeared because nobody believed in them, but then appeared in Gensokyo instead. There are many kinds of youkai, and they could be almost anything such as a sprit possessing an object, a magical beast, or even a western-style vampire. So in Gensokyo humans and youkai live together, but not always without conflict. Usually, the games stories revolve around a youkai causing an incident which has to be resolved by the human protagonists (a shrine maiden and a western-style witch).
Gensoyko exists as an island in the ocean and was the first place to be created. The characters and locations that are featured are all from the classic Windows era (Touhou 6 - 9). Rather than characters existing in Gensokyo because of people not believing in them, Gensokyo was created from the horrors of the 3D world. Basically, the 3D world sucks and has all kinds of things so a 2D world had to be created in which everything is nice: this is Crystaldimension. A barrier was then established between the worlds which is now guarded by the shrine maiden of Gensokyo.
Akihabara is the world of Di-Gi-Charat - a franchise created by the merch store 'Gamers' with the most important part being an anime. The Akihabara of Di-Gi-Charat is an absurd and surreal world in which pretty much anything can happen as long as it's entertaining. So one episode might just be two of the stores mascots fighting over who is more popular, but then in the next episode they have to defend Akihabara from an invasion by Godzilla and an alien. Many stories are also about the rivalry between Dejiko, the princess of planet Di-Gi-Charat and Pyoko, the princess of planet Analogue. Because planet Analogue is poor, Pyoko is always trying to come up with a plan to kidnap Dejiko and collect the ransom for her planet.
Akihabara exists as its own island and Planet Di-Gi-Charat and Planet Analogue exist somewhere in space. The setting is that Dejiko, Puchiko and Gema have once more returned to Akihabara so that Dejiko can finally take over the world. Also Pyoko has somewhat more sinister plans which match up to her planet's name. Originally, the war between the planets was caused by planet Analogue believing that people should stick with boring hobbies. And in line with this Pyoko is trying to return Akihabara to a place in which no anime exists.
