    Here's some cool obscure shows you've never heard of (I found these by scrolling through anilist by year and clicking on anything that looked weird. Some also have extremely bad scores by anilist reviewers, that's how you know they're worth checking out):

    Magical Play (Mahou Yuugi)
    Magical Play FACTS: 1. There is a character called Nonononon. 2. There are two policewomen who wear starfish on their heads, named Ketchup and Mustard. 3. The MC wears a giant fish, and another character (a catgirl) wears two cats. The cats try to eat the fish.
    Detatoko Princess
    This is a show about a princess who really likes pudding and casts pudding magic. It's surprisingly wholesome for old anime and just sort of has a bunch of nice ideas on how to make a fantasy anime interesting (it's not an Isekai, for one).
    Akihabara Dennou Gumi
    This one's harder to recommend because there's a whole bunch of fanservice. But it's a very good cast of likeable characters with a weird plot about mechanical toys who turn into fighters. Basically it's complete whiplash. And of course it's about the holy land.
    Corrector Yui
    An interesting magical girl show where most of the action takes place inside a computer or virtual reality. So the monster of the day is always some kind of bug which corrupts one of the virtual worlds. The MCs mission is to free all her allies which then grant her new powers.
